About The Position

Wizcorp is looking for highly experienced Unity Programmers to work on exciting projects for next-generation consoles. Depending on your background, skills, and experience, we’ll find the most suitable role within our teams. This position requires you to reside in Japan during your employment with Wizcorp.

Requirements

  • Several years of work experience working with Unity and have released games on PC and consoles.
  • C# needs to be your lingua franca.
  • Experience solving deep, complex problems in the various Unity rendering pipelines, the Addressables system, and other key systems of Unity.
  • Ability to write clean, readable, performant code and design the architecture around it.
  • Excellent debugging and optimization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and contribute to technical discussions.
  • Eager to both provide and receive constructive feedback for continual growth.
  • Strong software development skills, design theory, and development processes.
  • Strong personal time management.
  • End-to-end software development knowledge.
  • Full grasp of Unity's lifecycle, domain reloading, scene management and deep profiling.
  • Development experience in Unity's rendering pipelines - primarily URP, with familiarity in HDRP, SRP, or custom pipelines considered a strong plus.
  • Experience setting up and managing usage of Unity’s Addressable system.
  • Familiarity with Unity’s core system internal systems, and knowledge on how to customize them.
  • Designing and implementing custom editor extensions, inspectors, and tools to streamline workflows.
  • Development targeting PlayStation platforms and Nintendo platforms.
  • University degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline; or relevant professional experience.
  • For Japan-based candidates: 5+ total years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years of professional experience using Unity and 2+ years of professional experience developing console games (including using test kits and dev kits).
  • For overseas-based candidates: 7+ total years of professional software engineering experience, 6+ years of professional experience using Unity and 6+ years of professional experience developing console games (including using test kits and dev kits).
  • Solid software engineering abilities (good code hygiene, familiarity with various coding patterns, etc.).
  • Strong experience with C++ and debugging in Unreal Engine.
  • Comfortable with source code management systems (Git, SVN, Perforce, etc.).
  • At least conversational Japanese proficiency - JLPT N3 or above.
  • English proficiency (ability to read, write, and discuss technical matters).

Nice To Haves

  • Building plugins and tools in C++ or any other language necessary to make improvements.
  • Familiarity in HDRP, SRP, or custom pipelines.
  • Experience with some of the following languages: C++, Rust, Ruby, Python, shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Unity’s build pipeline.
  • Experience with other game engines such as Unreal Engine, proprietary engines, or others.
  • Optional familiarity with other target platforms (Nintendo, PC, mobile).
  • Worked on at least 1 released game.

Responsibilities

  • Review code from other engineers and ensuring they meet quality expectations.
  • Implementing control systems for consoles in a clean and extensible manner.
  • Investigating performance on the target platform and modifying the game or engine to improve this.
  • Testing updated code on target platforms to ensure correctness and performance.
  • Utilize their full grasp of Unity's lifecycle, including domain reloading, scene management and deep profiling.
  • Work confidently to solve deep, complex problems in Unity's rendering pipelines - primarily URP, with familiarity in HDRP, SRP, or custom pipelines considered a strong plus.
  • Structure and build logical, performant groups of assets using the Addressables system.
  • Design and implement custom editor extensions, inspectors, and tools to streamline workflows.
  • Work autonomously on your code with minimal oversight.
  • Break down large features into engineering tasks and work with other engineers to complete them.
  • Mentor engineers in software development best practices.
  • Have an interest in working on both games and their tools.
  • Confidently communicate with all members of the company.
  • Estimate own tasks and deliver them in a timely manner.
  • Write clear, maintainable code that passes review by other senior engineers.
  • Raise all blockers when they arise to the project lead.
  • Navigate large existing codebases to find and solve complex performance issues.
  • Iterate solutions on systems without breaking functionality.
  • Test and document provided solutions to ensure their effective, regardless of platform.
  • Implement and uphold software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle.
  • Take ownership of large areas of the code base and large complex features.
  • Coordinate with members outside of the engineering team to deliver features in a timely manner.
  • Determine large feature feasibility and propose solutions.
  • Provide solid programming expertise to deliver large features and architecture suggestions.
  • Provide code review analysis that uses all relevant experience to foresee problems with design and implementation.
