About The Position

Excel Driver Services is seeking a Unity Developer to join its simulation team and contribute to a commercial vehicle training simulation platform that runs on multi-display simulators and integrates with a learning management system. Most of the work focuses on backend and application systems, including data, networking, and services, with additional contributions to UI, tooling, and scenario development. This is a hands-on, in-person role involving daily collaboration with a small development team to deliver training technology to customers.

Requirements

  • C# programming skills, with a solid grasp of object-oriented programming, collections, and async/await.
  • Knowledge of Unity fundamentals, including MonoBehaviours, ScriptableObjects, scene management, and the Unity lifecycle.
  • Experience building at least one complete Unity project, whether personal, academic, or professional.
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs and JSON.
  • Version control experience with Git or Plastic SCM and ability to adopt the team's branching and review workflow.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to the rest of the team.
  • Strong technical fundamentals and discipline in applying them.
  • Ability to move between backend logic, UI, and tooling work as project needs change.
  • Ability to read existing code and architecture before creating new systems.
  • Ability to explain why a system works, not just that it does.
  • Reliability, accountability, and consistent effort and attitude in the workplace.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

Nice To Haves

  • .NET experience, such as ASP.NET Core, Web API, or Entity Framework.
  • Basic SQL and data modeling skills.
  • Exposure to Unity multiplayer or networking, such as Netcode, Mirror, or Photon.
  • Familiarity with unit testing, such as NUnit or the Unity Test Framework.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially AWS.
  • Background in simulation, learning management systems, or industrial software.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and multi-platform builds.
  • Experience with WebGL builds or browser-to-backend communication.
  • A portfolio, GitHub profile, or shipped projects demonstrating work.
  • Interest in the application of emerging AI technology.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Unity backend and application systems, including session management, scenario logic, data persistence, and networked features.
  • Support multiplayer functionality and instance synchronization across simulators.
  • Consume and contribute to APIs connecting the simulation to the web platform and cloud services.
  • Contribute to Unity application areas as needed, including UI, editor tooling, scenario scripting, and bug fixing.
  • Write clean, maintainable C# that conforms to the existing architecture.
  • Collaborate with rendering and physics developers to integrate their systems into the application.
  • Participate in team meetings, sprint planning, and code reviews.
  • Contribute to documentation and help establish engineering standards for the platform.
