About The Position

Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Unit Supervisor provides leadership and oversight for the daily operations of the unit, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care and efficient service delivery. This role supervises and supports staff through scheduling, performance management, coaching, and professional development, while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment. The Unit Supervisor coordinates multidisciplinary care, oversees program planning and quality improvement initiatives, implements clinical policies and standards, and manages unit resources and budgets. The role also provides clinical leadership through patient assessments, treatment planning, case conferences, and ongoing support to the interdisciplinary team to ensure seamless, effective care.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing is required plus qualifications required of staff nurse in the clinical area.
  • Five (5) years recent, related experience in clinical specialty including two (2) years recent experience in supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and scope of nursing practice and relevant rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
  • Demonstrated leadership skill and ability to organize, oversee and evaluate function of a team.
  • Ability to use evidence-based practice to develop and implement standards of practice that guide work practices and quality and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, coaching, facilitation and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated fiscal planning and administration skills.
  • Ability to develop, prioritize and accomplish objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily unit operations by overseeing patient care delivery, staff assignments, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient services.
  • Supervise and support staff performance through coaching, goal setting, performance evaluations, attendance management, and corrective action when required.
  • Manage staffing and workforce planning, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, scheduling, vacation planning, leave approvals, and overtime management.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision by supporting care planning, case reviews, nursing assessments, therapeutic interventions, and complex patient care decisions.
  • Foster staff development and education by identifying learning needs, coordinating training programs, supporting orientation, and promoting ongoing professional growth.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and clinical standards, maintaining accountability for safety, quality, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead quality improvement and program development initiatives by monitoring outcomes, analyzing service performance, resolving operational issues, and implementing improvements.
  • Manage unit resources and budgets, including monitoring expenditures, allocating equipment and supplies, and ensuring fiscally responsible operations.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and stakeholder engagement by coordinating services, participating in committees, and building partnerships with internal and external healthcare providers.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and safety indicators, including incident reporting, population health analysis, performance reporting, and implementation of initiatives that improve patient care and service delivery.
