This role acts as a receptionist, greeting patients and family members, answering telephones, sending faxes, making copies, and ordering office and medical supplies for their assigned unit. Administrative tasks involve managing patient records within an electronic health records system by entering data, updating records, and retrieving information as requested by physicians or nurses. The Unit Secretary is also responsible for effectively handling patient orders and coordinating procedures such as X-rays, blood tests, and imaging with other departments. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with physicians, nurses, patients, vendors, and various hospital departments. A key aspect of the role is ensuring patients are informed and satisfied with their hospital experience. The ability to multi-task in high-stress situations is also required.
