About The Position

In this position, you will provide support in the Operating Room, PACU, and the Surgical Admission and Discharge Unit. You will interact with staff, physicians, volunteers, patients, and families in the Surgical Admission and Discharge Unit and the Operating Room. The successful candidate will be responsible for clerical, reception, payroll, supply ordering, and project work within the duties of a unit secretary. The clerical aspect of the role includes: entering pre and postoperative patient information, scheduling OR procedures, entering physician orders, filing, photocopying, ordering supplies, completing home care requisitions, scheduling post-surgical clinic appointments, and performing special projects as requested. The receptionist aspect of the role includes: receiving visitors, patients, and/or organization personnel, and answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate personnel.

Requirements

  • Previous Unit Secretary / Medical clerical experience is essential.
  • Experience within Perioperative settings and knowledge of surgical program.
  • Medical terminology is essential.
  • Word processing / typing skills (40 wpm).
  • Previous experience with Meditech.
  • Ability to multi-task assigned duties is essential.
  • Ability to function within a fast-paced environment.
  • Good computer skills and good knowledge of Excel program.
  • Able to cope with stressful situations and be a support in emergencies is essential.
  • Ability to prioritize and act quickly in emergencies.
  • Demonstrated production of quality work, focus on detail.
  • Able to function independently and within a high-functioning team.
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively both independently and as an inter-professional team member.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard.
