About The Position

As a Clerk/Receptionist in the clinic, you will work with a Physician, a Registered Practical Nurse, and Nurse Practitioners to deliver care to select patients with acute illness requiring consultation and follow-up care. The Clerk/Receptionist is a valuable member of the team and has a significant impact on the efficient and effective operation of the clinics. The successful candidate will be responsible for both clerical and receptionist duties. The primary location will be clinic 2.

Requirements

  • Previous medical reception/clerical experience required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinic/outpatient setting
  • Knowledge of and/or completion of a medical terminology course
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft office tools
  • Meditech experience required with proficiency booking multiple appointment types
  • Excellent written and verbal communication through email phone and in person interactions including patients and physicians
  • Being able to multitask in a fast paced environment and handle high pressure situations
  • Able to accommodate multiple competing requests
  • Critical thinking skills with ability to investigate scheduling, registration and order issues
  • Must have experience with scheduling diagnostic testing and lab testing
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Excellent public relations and communication skills with a pleasant telephone manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of the team
  • Evidence of good attention to detail
  • Must have demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling clinic appointments for initial consultation and follow-up visits including co-ordination of required diagnostic tests and blood work
  • Work with an interprofessional team of doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners to provide exceptional patient care by coordinating appointments and follow up
  • Greeting patients and providing exceptional service
  • Answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate personnel
  • Follow-up of telephone reminder appointments to patients as required
  • Entering lab orders and diagnostic tests
  • Filing compiling and/or photocopying reports to send to various outside agencies
