Under the supervision of the Nurse Director, performs a variety of clerical/clinical duties in support of the unit. Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Computer skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated prioritization and organizational skills
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions OR equivalent combination of the above

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant certification preferred
  • Classes in medical terminology preferred
  • Experience in a hospital or health care setting preferred
  • Experience with Meditech computer system preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs clerical functions on the patient care unit and/or other patient care areas as assigned
  • Assembles patient records.
  • Files and documents patient information, i.e. Laboratory and X-ray reports.
  • Keeps records up-to date, in order and supplied with appropriate forms.
  • Transcribes physician orders accurately and timely.
  • Initiates orders via order entry system accurately and timely.
  • Facilitates effective communication and coordinates unit activities.
  • Answers telephone appropriately and courteously.
  • Takes and relays messages in a timely manner.
  • Places calls as requested to physicians, and other professional or ancillary services.
  • Greets and directs visitors, physician, and staff from other departments.
  • Opens, sorts and routes mail accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Orders, receives and stocks required inventory of stationary and forms (linen, sterile supplies; food and kitchen supplies as requested).
  • Assists the manager by performing administrative duties as requested.
