About The Position

As a Unit Secretary, you’re the heart of patient care as you organize and manage supportive clerical services and communication for your unit. Playing a vital role in ensuring the unit’s smooth operations and exceptional care, in this dynamic position, you coordinate administrative tasks and create a welcoming environment for patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Maintaining an efficient, cost effective and organized nursing station, you demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide assigned unit tasks and responsibilities for patients with acute care needs. You're the conductor, guiding the flow and rhythm of your unit and serving as a trusted resource for nurses and other members of the care team. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Receptionist, Secretary or Unit Clerk in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Performs the priority technical procedures required by the area/department/assignment safely, effectively, efficiently and legally.
  • Transcribes orders, initiates, assembles and maintains charts.
  • Performs receptionist and clerical duties.
  • Answers call lights, responds professionally to questions, and finds appropriate assistance for patients as needed.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to ensure orderly operation of the unit and improve patient care.
  • Demonstrates care and concern for customers by striving to meet their expectations.
  • Follows HIPAA guidelines.
  • Seeks supervision or assistance when unable to perform effectively or independently.
  • Uses interpersonal communication strategies with individuals that are intended to achieve desirable, acceptable outcomes/responses and perceptions of satisfaction by those involved.
  • Enters supply rooms on nursing units as needed to perform necessary job functions.
  • Refrains from manipulating or removing any intravenous fluids that are stored in the area.
  • Contributes to continuity of patient care.
  • Complies with established hospital, departmental and personnel policies.
  • Maintains documentation consistent with established guidelines.
