About The Position

This multifunctional role requires cross-training to perform Unit Secretary duties and at least one clinical support role, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the employee provides customer service and clerical and administrative support; monitors, orders, and stocks supplies; and helps maintain a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Clinical support duties, performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, may include collecting patient-status data, performing basic nursing procedures, monitoring and documenting patient responses, assisting with treatments and procedures, and maintaining patient-care equipment. The amount of time spent in clinical support may vary by unit, but the employee will perform clinical support duties at least 20% of the time.

The position is based in Medical/Surgical Nursing at Blount Memorial Hospital and works the day shift.

Requirements

• Completion of a nursing assistant class, or current Tennessee CNA certification as proof of completed state-required training at the time of hire.
• CNA certification.
• No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous, professional, and efficient customer service to patients, families, and staff; assist visitors with directions and answer phones and intercoms.
• Participate in patient-care rounding with unit staff, including daily introductions to patients and families using AIDET.
• Manage equipment and supply ordering, stocking, and inventory in collaboration with the nurse manager, including monitoring supply levels and PAR levels and organizing supply rooms.
• Perform reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station, including responding to patient calls.
• Provide administrative and clerical support such as data entry, meeting minutes, maintaining bulletin boards, and organizing downtime forms.
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning equipment.
• Perform duties in one clinical support role on the nursing unit, such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
