About The Position

Meritus Health is seeking a Unit Nutrition Assistant to join its Nutrition Services team. The role helps deliver high-quality food service to patients by ensuring accurate meal selections, safe food handling, and excellent customer service. The assistant serves as a liaison between patients, dietitians, and foodservice staff to support optimal nutrition care and patient satisfaction.

This is a part-time position scheduled for 32 hours bi-weekly, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced healthcare setting and follow departmental and regulatory standards for food safety and infection control.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One to two years of food service experience preferred, particularly with modified diets and direct customer service.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
• Patient-focused and service-oriented.

Nice To Haves

• Clerical and typing ability preferred.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve, evaluate, and process diet orders and messages, and communicate updates to Nutrition Services and Nursing staff.
• Collect patient meal selections in person or by phone, ensuring they comply with diet orders and reflect patient preferences.
• Process meal tickets and tally sheets, and deliver trays to patients according to schedule.
• Answer and direct phone calls professionally and courteously.
• Operate CBORD and Bedside menu entry systems accurately.
• Follow safe food handling, storage, and infection control practices in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards, including HACCP, TJC, and Maryland Department of Health requirements.
