About The Position

The Unit Lead provides supportive services and operational oversight during assigned shifts and serves as the lead point of contact for shelter staff and residents. This role supports shelter operations, ensures the safety and well-being of clients and staff by maintaining appropriate supervision, enforcing behavioral expectations, and taking reasonable action to uphold program policies and comply with federal and state standards and requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years’ experience working in shelter operations, residential services, and vulnerable populations.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation preferred.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts.
  • Driver’s License with clear record.
  • Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.
  • Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
  • Ability to lift, bend, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation and coordination of shelter operations and program services to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Provide shift supervision and operational oversight.
  • Conduct facility rounds and monitor safety concerns.
  • Assist with intake, room assignments, and client support.
  • Support transportation coordination and resource referrals as needed.
  • Coordinate shift transitions and communicate operational updates.
  • Monitor staffing assignments and maintain required staff-to-client ratios at all times.
  • Support shelter staff with daily operations, including supply coordination, facility organization, stocking, record keeping, reporting, phone calls, copies, and other administrative duties.
  • Provide crisis intervention, conflict resolution, behavioral support, and direct supervision of clients to maintain a safe and structured environment.
  • Communicate behavioral expectations, enforce shelter regulations, and monitor client participation and conduct during shelter activities.
  • Conduct and ensure completion of head counts, incident documentation, daily logs, and activity reports in compliance with agency policies and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate staff, client, or shelter concerns to the Shelter Manager, including matters affecting client health and well-being.
  • Assist in securing and coordinating necessary resources, supplies, and support services for shelter operations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff across shifts to promote teamwork and continuity of services.
  • Participate in staff meetings, team decisions, training workshops, seminars, and professional development opportunities to maintain up-to-date knowledge and enhance job performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and organizational regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Perform additional duties, special projects, and assignments as directed by the Supervisor or Shelter Monitor, coordinate and delegate daily operations as needed throughout the shift.
