About The Position

Geisinger is hiring a full-time Unit Desk Clerk for its Intensive Care Unit at Geisinger Wyoming Valley. The role performs a wide range of clerical duties in a patient care environment and supports the care team in delivering safe, coordinated patient care. The ideal candidate is motivated, reliable, punctual, dependable, proactive, and committed to quality care, with strong teamwork and communication skills and the ability to meet orientation and ongoing full-time scheduling requirements. This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, with two 8-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and two 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Every-other-weekend and holiday rotation is required. Work is typically performed in an office environment. The minimum hiring rate is $16.24, with increased rates for experienced individuals and shift differentials of up to $3 for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Geisinger also offers up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Strong communication, computer literacy, customer service, and teamwork skills.
Ability to meet orientation and long-term full-time scheduling requirements.
Reliability, punctuality, and strong attendance.
Ability to work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotation.

Responsibilities

Perform a wide range of clerical duties in a patient care environment.
Participate in required patient safety education and activities to improve departmental and organizational safety.
Ensure appropriate bed assignments and timely notification of teletracking upon discharge.
Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards.
Transcribe and process orders according to unit standards.
Release and confirm ordered tests with appropriate departments.
Coordinate patient transportation to multiple tests.
Promptly communicate patient-related information to the appropriate care team member.
Obtain and communicate electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit.
Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
Collaborate with other healthcare teams to facilitate multidisciplinary patient care.
Obtain and order supplies.
File forms and reports according to standards and maintain an organized patient care environment.
Operate clerical equipment, troubleshoot problems, and take corrective measures.
Assist with transporting non-controlled medications to and from the Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
Assist with transporting blood products to and from the Blood Bank as needed.
Assist the care team in collecting necessary data or reports.
Precept and mentor new staff in a professional, positive manner.
Satisfy job-specific obligations and comply with organizational policies and procedures.
