About The Position

The Unit Associate will be responsible for various administrative and support tasks within the Davino 1-Orthopedics unit at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center. This role acts as a liaison between nursing and other departments, manages patient records, troubleshoots hospital information systems, ensures business continuity procedures are followed, and monitors the unit environment. The position is per diem, working 8-hour shifts.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in computer systems for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Knowledge of ADIET and proper phone etiquette.
  • Ability to use approved communication devices (Vocera).
  • Competency with Business Continuity Access (BCA) procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot non-clinical computer system functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with Aceso UPCARE.
  • Experience with HIM scanning and document scanning.
  • Experience with patient portal enrollment.

Responsibilities

  • Answers phones promptly and politely, directing calls and greeting visitors, patients, and staff.
  • Answers call lights promptly and delegates requests using approved communication devices.
  • Acts as a liaison between Nursing, Bed Management, Patient Access, Environmental Services, and Transport to ensure appropriate patient placement and flow.
  • Performs timely and accurate unit/floor admissions, transfers, and discharges using computer systems.
  • Removes discharged patients from the system within fifteen minutes or less.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with ancillary/support departments for scheduling of diagnostic tests, procedures, and services.
  • Obtains patient supplies, results, and medical records as appropriate.
  • Makes follow-up patient appointments as applicable.
  • Conducts patient rounds.
  • Maintains patient records and facilitates patient education.
  • Prints patient labels and wristbands.
  • Organizes paper patient records for timely HIM scanning and provides document scanning as needed.
  • Assists with admission packets, discharge/transfer paperwork, and documentation.
  • Assigns patient education (Aceso UPCARE) as directed by clinicians.
  • Coordinates distribution of patient itineraries.
  • Assists with enrolling patients in the patient portal.
  • Serves as a resource for hospital information systems and devices, troubleshooting computer problems.
  • Identifies, reports, and tracks problems with hospital information systems/devices.
  • Provides training support to nursing staff for non-clinical computer system functions.
  • Participates in the training of new unit associates.
  • Ensures competency with Business Continuity Access (BCA) procedures.
  • Completes daily checks of BCA computer/devices and maintains BCA forms.
  • Organizes and participates in BCA drills.
  • Assists clinical staff with BCA education and implementation during downtime.
  • Assists with back entry of orders after a downtime.
  • Monitors unit/floor environment for cleanliness, safety, and patient/staff comfort.
  • Keeps work station organized and uncluttered.
  • Reports and follows up on cleaning needs, leaks, temperature adjustments, and safety concerns to appropriate departments.
