About the Role: Department Overview The Cardiac ICU is a 24 bed inpatient unit with bedside monitors for hemodynamic monitoring. The unit provides comprehensive care to cardiac/vascular/surgical patients requiring intense monitoring and nursing care. Patient care in the Cardiac ICU includes early detection and prevention of complications, management of complex physiological problems, patient/family education and family psychosocial support systems. The unit’s focus is patients requiring cardiac and vascular surgery, TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement), Mitral Clips, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy), ventricular assist device (VAD), IABP (intra-aortic balloon pump), Impella, and advanced ventilator management. Patients on this unit include: Critically ill, unstable patients in the need of intensive treatment such as ventilator support and continuous vasoactive drug therapy. Patients who may qualify for Priority 1 include those who suffer from reversible disease or acute illness and are admitted for aggressive medical/surgical treatment that cannot be provided elsewhere in the hospital. Some examples are patients with: Cardiovascular surgeries Vascular surgeries Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation treatment Ventricular Assist Device implantation Unstable patients having undergone cardiac interventions Unstable cardiac or vascular patients Hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring and/or close observation Critically ill patients >15 years of age Earn Up to $10,000 Sign-On Bonus! Job Summary Provides a wide variety of support services for the units (s). Provides clerical support by maintaining patient records, unit supplies, equipment, and serving as a facilitator for communications for the assigned area. Performs patient care within the scope of defined practice and interacts with patients, public, and employees throughout the institution. Functions under the direction of a registered professional nurse. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team. This position will care for patients in the adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Employee performs duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures.
