About The Position

Plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned. The Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit is an 11-Bed unit providing care to cardiac surgical and cardiac medical patients and can serve as an overflow ICU. The Care Team consists of Registered Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Monitor Technicians, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Clinical Educator, and Nursing Manager. Common services include post-cardiac surgery, aortic repair, STEMI, CABG, SAVR, CER, thoracic surgery, temporary pacemakers, and adult ICU patient care.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing required
  • Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure
  • Greater than one year of experience in ICU, cardiac, or post-operative care nursing
  • This role requires a high level of empathy, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Possess strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, high attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure
  • Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
  • Visual acuity for observation of patients
  • Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
  • May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
  • BLS - American Heart Association
  • RN - Board Of Nursing

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient and identifies patient care needs

  • Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services
  • Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients
  • Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of medical regimen
