About The Position

Sustainment & Restoration Services (SRS) is seeking an Unexploded Ordnance Safety Officer (UXOSO) for an assignment in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This role is crucial for ensuring safety compliance on projects involving Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC). The UXOSO will be responsible for analyzing risks, implementing mitigation measures, conducting inspections, and promoting a strong safety culture. The assignment is expected to last approximately 15-20 workdays, starting on July 5, 2026.

Requirements

  • Meet the minimum qualifications for Unexploded Ordnance Safety Officer (UXOSO) in accordance with Department of Defense Explosive Safety Board Technical Paper 18 (DDESB TP-18).
  • Meet the minimum qualifications for a Level I Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) in accordance with USACE EM 385-1-1.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to enforce explosive safety and health requirements outlined in USACE EM 385-1-97.
  • Meet medical surveillance and training requirements under the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standard (29 CFR 1910.120).
  • Possess a valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate passenger vehicles and light trucks.
  • Strong understanding of explosives safety, hazard recognition, risk management, and field safety compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience serving as a UXOSO on military munitions response or unexploded ordnance projects.
  • Current HAZWOPER certification.
  • Experience supporting USACE, Department of Defense, or other federal environmental remediation programs.
  • Familiarity with explosives safety quantity distance (ESQD) planning and implementation.
  • Strong written documentation and safety reporting experience.
  • Experience conducting field safety audits, inspections, and corrective action management.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the Site-Specific Safety and Health Plan (SSHP), Work Plan (WP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), project addenda, and client-directed safety requirements.
  • Analyze operational, explosives safety, and general safety risks associated with Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) activities and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Enforce personnel limits and Explosives Safety Quantity Distance (ESQD) requirements for all MEC-related operations.
  • Conduct, document, and report safety inspections, audits, and observations, ensuring timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, Department of Defense, USACE, and company safety requirements.
  • Ensure protective works, safety equipment, and exclusion zone (EZ) controls are properly utilized and maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications, applicable DDESB approvals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with the Senior Unexploded Ordnance Supervisor (SUXOS) and Munitions Response Services Operations Manager to maintain safe project execution.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, communication, and continuous monitoring of field operations.
