About The Position

The Office of Unemployment Insurance Operations (OUIO) administers Ohio's unemployment insurance program, which provides short-term income to unemployed workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. It reduces the hardship felt by families during periods of temporary unemployment and bolsters the local economies by maintaining the purchasing power of the unemployed worker. This role leads the Unemployment Adjudication Team, including its supervisors and staff. You will manage daily operations, monitor performance and provide regular coaching and support.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of federal or state employment/unemployment programs, with a strong preference for unemployment benefits experience.
  • Supervisory experience or training is required.
  • Must be able to guide teams through change, manage multiple priorities, and stay calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • 12 months experience as an Unemployment Insurance Supervisor OR 36 months experience or training in government laws, rules, regulations, &/or procedures governing unemployment insurance AND 12 months experience in supervisory principles/techniques OR Completion of undergraduate core program in public or business administration AND 12 months training or experience in government laws, rules, regulations, &/or procedures governing unemployment insurance AND 12 months experience in supervisory principles/techniques OR Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

  • Call center experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Run all day-to-day activities of the Adjudication Team.
  • Give clear, supportive leadership and feedback to supervisors and staff.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert and train the team on daily tasks.
  • Work with executives to improve policies and procedures.
  • Develop and refine practices that improve customer service and efficiency.
  • Encourage teamwork within the group and with other teams.
  • Track and analyze performance metrics to find issues and improve results.
  • Maintain a positive, productive team culture.
  • Lead a team that may work remotely, in hybrid schedules, or on-site, ensuring consistent communication and expectations.
  • Represent the agency during public speaking events.
  • Support the UI Senior Manager with budgeting and solving operational issues.
