About The Position

The Department of Labor & Industry is looking for independent and highly motivated individuals to travel throughout an assigned territory within Pennsylvania and help a wide-range of employers and businesses comply with PA Unemployment Compensation (UC) law. The Unemployment Compensation (UC) Tax Agent position offers a meaningful way to support employers and protect the integrity of the UC system. This role focuses on auditing employer records, conducting investigations, and ensuring compliance with the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Law. It involves examining documents, working with employers, and helping maintain accurate and lawful reporting practices.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree which includes or is supplemented by 18 college credits in finance and accounting, of which at least 6 college credits are in accounting; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in finance and accounting, of which at least 6 college credits are in accounting.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • Must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, or Venango County.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment, including a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.

Responsibilities

  • Examine payroll records, financial documents, and accounting ledgers to calculate proper taxable wages
  • Rebuild payroll information when employer records are incomplete or missing
  • Identify reporting errors, prepare adjustments, and ensure employer accounts meet UC Law requirements
  • Conduct inquiries into blocked claims, employer liability, registration accuracy, and potential misclassification issues
  • Perform field collection tasks, negotiate payment plans, and initiate enforcement actions when needed
  • Analyze employer UCMS accounts to identify discrepancies and initiate corrective actions
