About The Position

The Underwriting Technician supports NJM’s Commercial Lines policyholders and preferred agencies in the Mid-Atlantic region by processing policy transactions, including new and renewal policy rating and issuance and mid-term changes. The role also supplements the Commercial Customer Contact Center by handling customer inquiries. Work must be completed within departmental guidelines for timeliness and quality. The position follows a hybrid schedule of three days in the West Trenton office and two days at home after in-person training is complete. It is not fully remote. Regular and predictable onsite attendance is an essential function of the job.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
Strong verbal, written, and active-listening communication skills.
Ability to multitask, handle interruptions, and regain focus on the task at hand.
Proficiency with computers, accurate data entry, Microsoft Office Suite, and business-related software.
Ability to collaborate with coworkers.

Responsibilities

Verify the accuracy and completeness of information needed to process transactions.
Process transactions, including mid-term changes and issuing new-business and renewal policies.
Act on specific renewal activities or instructions.
Review incoming policy specification inquiries and renewal questionnaires, recognizing changes that need to be addressed or referred.
Manage work assignments and plan for date-sensitive activities in advance of taking PTO.
Seek advice and guidance from a supervisor or senior staff when unsure how to handle a situation.
Handle certificate requests from customers in a timely manner when applicable; refer requests requiring further attention to a supervisor or senior staff.
Handle customer inquiries to supplement the Commercial Customer Contact Center.
