About The Position

The Underwriting Specialist Supervisor is a key leadership role at the heart of MotivHealth's Underwriting operations. You'll ensure cases are set up accurately, files are complete, and deadlines are met, all while coaching and developing a team of Specialists. As the go-to resource for Specialist questions and a trusted partner to Underwriters and Underwriting leadership, you'll play a meaningful role in shaping team processes, improving file quality, and driving continuous improvement across the department.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in underwriting operations for TPA operations, or health insurance administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Underwriting platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of self-funded plan structures, stop-loss, census processing, and plan document concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines and prioritize in a high-volume environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a track record of high-accuracy work product.
  • Strong communication skills — able to coach, give feedback, and partner cross-functionally with Underwriting and operations teams.
  • Experience developing or updating SOPs, checklists, and training materials.

  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assign Specialist workload, monitor capacity, and confirm that priority groups and urgent files are progressing on schedule.
  • Track approaching deadlines and blocked cases; monitor missing documentation and ensure appropriate follow-up ownership.
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for Specialist questions on setup, documentation, census, claims, plan design, and process - reviewing complex or urgent files prior to submission to Underwriting.
  • Facilitate weekly team meetings covering workload, process changes, and recurring issues; review setup accuracy and identify error trends.
  • Meet with Underwriters and/or Underwriting leadership to gather feedback on file quality and review pending renewals and upcoming workload volume.
  • Provide targeted coaching to Specialists based on observed work product; update SOPs and checklists where recurring issues are identified and confirm training progress for newer team members.
  • Report team performance metrics to Underwriting leadership, including accuracy, turnaround time, volume, rework, missed deadlines, and escalations - identifying recurring process issues and proposing corrective action.
  • Audit a sample of completed files for compliance and update training materials to reflect recent process or system changes.
