About The Position

This summer 2027 internship opportunity is for a talented freshman or sophomore college student looking to gain entry-level underwriting and insurance experience in the insurance industry. The intern will assist Staff Underwriters within the UW Shared Services department, which supports personal lines, commercial lines, and ag underwriting teams. The role may involve project opportunities within the Underwriting department and potential assistance in other departments. Interns will also participate in corporate activities designed to provide exposure to the industry, organization, and culture. The program follows an 80/10/10 approach: 80% meaningful work and projects, 10% learning and networking across the organization, and 10% shared internship experiences. This is a great way to gain general corporate real-world exposure.

Requirements

Current college student.
Majoring in business, finance, or agriculture is a plus.
Quick learner looking to learn new concepts and ideas.
Able to learn basic understanding of property insurance policies.
Familiarity with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.
Must be detail-oriented.
Willing to ask questions.
Available to work 38.75 hours per week during Summer 2027.
Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent basis.
Not seeking immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

Assist Staff Underwriters from within the UW Shared Services department.
Support personal lines, commercial lines, and ag underwriting teams.
Undertake project opportunities within the Underwriting department.
Potentially assist with opportunities in other departments.
Support business units.
Participate in corporate activities designed to provide exposure to the industry, organization, and culture.
Spend 80% of time performing meaningful work and project-based assignments.
Spend 10% of time learning from and networking with employees in other areas of the organization.
Spend 10% of time participating in shared internship experiences.
