About The Position

Mid-Continent Group, a subsidiary of Great American, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializes in commercial casualty coverages with an emphasis on general liability for the construction, energy, and difficult-to-place business in other industries. Mid-Continent Group provides a broad selection of General Liability, Commercial Auto, Inland Marine and Umbrella products. This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship. Mid-Continent Group is accepting resumes for Underwriting Internship candidates starting employment in May through the summer of 2027 with a hybrid work schedule in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Underwriting Internship program includes a combination of activities aimed at giving the intern a full understanding of the Underwriting department and how they interact with other functions within the organization. The program is a potential pathway to a career in insurance. Internships typically consist of a 10-week period over the summer.

Requirements

  • Current student in a bachelor’s degree program in a wide range of majors, with Insurance & Risk Management students encouraged to apply
  • Superior communication, analytical, planning, and organizing skills
  • Self-motivated, as the nature of the internship may have virtual aspects

Nice To Haves

  • 3.5 preferred GPA, with a 3.0 minimum GPA for consideration
  • Proven leadership skills through work experience (prior internship/co-ops a plus), campus involvement, and/or extracurricular activities
  • May 2028-2029 graduate preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters in evaluating and analyzing risk for commercial general liability insurance policies.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor analysis.
  • Support the preparation of underwriting reports and documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on risk assessment and policy development.
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather necessary information for underwriting decisions.
  • Assist in the review and processing of insurance applications and renewals.
  • Learn and utilize underwriting software and tools to support daily tasks.
