About The Position

Ameritas is seeking an Underwriting Intern to assist the Group Business Development Underwriting team with projects and daily workflow. The intern will learn about group benefits and gain exposure to dental and vision products, underwriting techniques, department operations, and processes while working with underwriting and sales support teams. Hands-on training and support will be provided to meet team and company objectives. The internship begins in May 2027 and is hybrid, with work partially in the office and partially from home. The intern must be able to commit to a one-year internship, working part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer. Part-time hours are 15–20 per week; full-time hours are 30–40 per week. The internship is benefits-ineligible.

Requirements

Be an undergraduate student majoring in Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Actuarial Science, or Business.
Commit to a one-year internship, working part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer.
Have intermediate computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when faced with unexpected challenges.
Be able to apply sales-oriented thinking to present creative solutions.
Be able to manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

Learn the dental and vision rating and risk evaluation process.
Evaluate new requests for proposals (RFPs).
Support approval of new cases and the issuance and installation process.
Assist with reporting or renewal processes while adhering to underwriting risk principles.
Perform tasks in support of assigned projects and work.
