About The Position

MSIG USA is seeking an Underwriting Assistant to support the underwriting process for property coverages. This role involves providing technical underwriting and administrative support for assigned new and renewal accounts under minimal supervision. Key responsibilities include collecting data, account setup, rating, producing quotes and binders, and issuing policies and endorsements. The position requires proactive assistance in ensuring the underwriting process is handled efficiently and accurately, and providing underwriters with necessary reports and analysis.

Requirements

  • College Degree with emphasis on insurance, business or accounting preferred.
  • 3+ years insurance or reinsurance company experience with emphasis on analytic functions in underwriting support, underwriting, and/or accounting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of rating and pricing models, insurance, and reinsurance for all lines of business.
  • Understanding of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including meeting established time and quality standards ensuring internal and external customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and reconcile new and renewal submission information to prepare policy/account files for underwriter review in accordance with company underwriting guidelines and standards.
  • Review and analyze account information for necessary underwriting data (exposures, loss information, driver information, financials, loss control reports, etc.) and communicate with brokers for missing information.
  • Review, analyze, and accurately input financial and statistical information into appropriate systems for timely and accurate quote (pricing), policy, reinsurance, and endorsement processing.
  • Maintain various databases to ensure all systems accurately reflect updated account information/documentation.
  • Interpret data and set up accounts in appropriate systems, often working directly with the underwriter.
  • Produce quotes and binders for new and renewal accounts/policies, identifying and gathering relevant account information, and identifying proper forms and endorsements.
  • Complete all aspects of reinsurance tasks per underwriting guidelines, including reviewing and analyzing accounts for reinsurance placement, organizing information, and accurately inputting data.
  • Obtain required underwriting data from clients and manage all aspects of the risk account from submission to applicable document issuance.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Proactively problem-solve to meet and exceed client/broker expectations with internal standards.
  • Identify process/system improvement concepts and critical success factors for achieving high results in Operations.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a timely and professional manner to internal and external customers, including Underwriters, Operations, Agents, and Brokers.
  • Respond to broker service requests for loss runs, endorsements, and other documentation.
  • Troubleshoot transaction processing issues with the Operations Department.
  • Research and assist in resolving inquiries from internal and external customers regarding policy/account status, rating, and billing issues.
  • Participate in broker/agency visits and loss inspections as recommended by the Underwriter.
  • Order and retrieve Risk Engineering reports as necessary and review/summarize inspection reports, highlighting key elements and following up on recommendations.
  • Accurately enter data into the Cat Modeling Template and submit to the Cat Modeling Team, analyzing output for catastrophe management and underwriting decisions.
  • Provide underwriters with base analysis, such as flood zone information.
  • Process and issue mid-term premium and non-premium bearing endorsement transactions within threshold.
  • Refer material change endorsement requests to the appropriate Underwriter for sign-off and approval.
  • Properly document all systems/account files within established due dates.
  • Effectively manage, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks.
