Under limited supervision and with significant independent judgment, this role organizes and controls the day-to-day administrative and underwriting activities for an assigned portfolio and/or region for contract and commercial surety. The position involves reviewing agency submittals, initiating the underwriting process, conducting thorough evaluations and assessments, securing credit reports, completing reference checks, and preparing financial and project trend analysis. The Underwriter will also prepare summary recommendations, facilitate the review and approval/declination of bid requests, and communicate with agents and internal staff to perform risk assessments and update financial files. Building and maintaining productive relationships with agents through marketing efforts and education on requirements and appetite is key. The role requires reviewing contract documents to identify potential exposures and risks, crafting appropriate bond form language, and constructing indemnity agreements. Additionally, the Underwriter will advance surety strategy and marketing at industry functions and with the agency plant, and may provide guidance and training to junior staff, as well as input on their performance. The ability to work legally in the United States is a minimum requirement, with no visa sponsorship or support available.
