About The Position

Great American Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Commercial Surety Underwriter. This role is with a leader in the insurance industry, known for its expert underwriting, solid financial strength, market leadership, and creative solutions. The position involves understanding and analyzing business reports, assessing risk quality, making decisions on surety credit, developing relationships, and delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will be based in Chicago (Schamburg), Illinois or Cincinnati, Ohio, but candidates in Charlotte, NC, Philadelphia, PA, Dallas (Richardson), TX, or Los Angeles (Orange), CA will also be considered. The role is hybrid, requiring three days in the office per week, and involves travel within the assigned territory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Field of Study: Finance, Accounting or a related discipline
  • Generally, 5+ years of related experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Progression toward certification in area of expertise preferred; appropriate certifications could include Associate in Surety and Fidelity Bonding (AFSB), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU).

Responsibilities

  • Understand and analyze business reports needed in the underwriting processes, including credit checks, bank agreements, and financial statements.
  • Responsible for all risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability for their branch office.
  • Assess risk quality in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Review the underwriting of others and make recommendations for extending surety credit including the terms and conditions.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Be highly organized to handle a variety of responsibilities.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Make timely, informed decisions.
  • Operate with integrity and honesty.
