About The Position

Underwriter II, Agriculture. This role performs risk assessments for all available products and assist lower-level underwriters with problem cases. This role is beginning to work with more complex policies and developing expertise.

Requirements

  • Associate degree.
  • Two to four years of experience.
  • Supervisory/management experience not applicable.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others to exchange information.
  • Normal little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.
  • Physical presence in company office required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent experience considered in place of collegiate studies.
  • Some P&C industry and/or Farming or Commercial industry knowledge.
  • AINS, API certification.
  • Applicable designation strongly preferred, or progress towards.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in rate-making meetings and in conversations with product/pricing, field management, marketing, etc. to share their thoughts, input, and observed trends for their region or line of business.
  • Shares more directly observed trends or individual input and advocates what they feel pricing should be.
  • Handles multiple contracts that are increasing in complexity (general personal lines and first-level commercial lines) that they are responsible for understanding and demonstrates an intermediate to proficient level of being able to apply these in their daily responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work within significant gray areas with multiple different rating mechanisms, coverage options, and evaluation of eligibility.
  • Monitors performance of agents and are expected to address performance issues or recognize achievements independently with agent, manager involvement is only needed when resolution is not reached.
  • Visits field at least once per year, ideally two to three visits in which interaction with field members and clients is necessary.
  • Works with agents to resolve field processing errors.
  • Presents content to agencies in person or electronically.
