About The Position

Argo Group is an underwriter of specialty insurance products in the property and casualty market. Argo offers a full line of products and services designed to meet the unique coverage and claims-handling needs of businesses. The Argo entities are wholly-owned subsidiaries of Clearbrook Group Holdings Inc. Argo / Farm Family currently has a challenging opportunity for an Underwriter in its Inland Marine line of business. This is a production underwriting position responsible for marketing, underwriting, and processing assigned lines of business. The role will work onsite daily at our Chicago office (24 E Washington).

Requirements

  • Three-plus years of related insurance experience and/or equivalent combination of education
  • Three years of underwriting experience with authority
  • Proven track record of driving profitable growth
  • Advanced knowledge of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to effectively engage in the negotiation process
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to travel

Nice To Haves

  • Previous insurance educational work, IIA, and CPCU designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review and price policies to verify acceptability based upon the company's underwriting guidelines and granted underwriting authority.
  • Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.
  • Interact in person, via email, and by phone with brokers to obtain additional risk-specific details, negotiate terms and pricing, and explain the company's positions.
  • Manage assigned portfolio in underwriting territory, including the performance (GWP, loss ratio) of assigned brokers.
  • Create, analyze, and interpret data from various reports/dashboards.
  • Complete underwriting analysis and maintain a complete underwriting file.
  • Resolve audit disputes within the assigned territory.
  • Review state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within the assigned territory to properly transact business within the state.
  • Participate in educational sessions within the department.
