•$46,500 - $69,500•Onsite

About The Position

The Underwater Sensors Engineer Co-op will contribute to maritime engineering work in MITRE’s Maritime and Acoustics Department, a cross-domain team focused on underwater acoustics, HF propagation, sonar analysis, acoustic communications, and prototype sensing systems. The department designs and tests prototype systems, develops propagation models and sensing algorithms, and advances acoustic communications for contested environments in support of government sponsors. The work spans physics-based modeling and algorithm development, hands-on hardware prototyping and evaluation in the BlueTech Lab, and field testing of systems in operational environments. The position is in person in Bedford, Massachusetts, and requires at least five days per week onsite.

Requirements

  • Sustained excellence in academic performance.
  • Be enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related degree, and continue full-time enrollment in the semester following the internship.
  • Be working toward a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain at least a Secret security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Demonstrate initiative and strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a strong technical background in one or more of the following: acoustic, radar, and/or sonar signal processing; algorithm development; detection and estimation theory; wave propagation; numerical methods; experimental data analysis; prototype development; or communication theory.
  • Have experience using analytical software such as MATLAB or Python for modeling, simulation, and analysis of physical systems.
  • Work onsite in Bedford, MA at least five days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Design next-generation transducers and acoustic sensors.
  • Rapidly prototype sensor and communication platforms.
  • Support development of signal-processing algorithms for underwater sensing and communications.
  • Conduct ocean-acoustic modeling to predict and assess undersea sensor-system performance.

Benefits

  • MITRE offers competitive benefits and meaningful career development.
