About The Position

Timmons Group is seeking an Underground Utility Locator to join its Survey Group in the Richmond, Virginia office. The role assists survey crews by locating and marking underground utilities for a range of projects. Work may combine office and field duties for the right candidate. The position may also involve learning to establish survey control and locate utility designation markings using conventional survey equipment.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a team and independently when needed. The role requires occasional travel and eligibility to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. Compensation is estimated at $21–$28 per hour, and the position is eligible for overtime. Offers are based on job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, credentials, and role complexity.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five years of SUE designation and field survey experience is ideal.
• Clear understanding of ASCE 38-02 standards, quality levels, and their applications.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
• Valid North Carolina driver license and good driving record.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with robotic total stations, data collectors, and GPS is preferred.
• AutoCAD experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide underground utility flagging and designation using electromagnetic equipment and other geophysical methods.
• Designate conductive and non-conductive utility lines and facilities, including water, sewer, gas, electric, fiber optic, and PVC utilities.
• Mark utilities with flags and/or paint and prepare sketches of results for client use.
• May learn to establish survey control and locate utility designation markings using robotic total stations and RTK GPS technology.
• Oversee maintenance of survey equipment, supplies, and vehicle.
• Work in a team environment and independently when needed.
