About The Position

The Center for Writing Excellence (CWE) is hiring undergraduate students from any major to work one-on-one with writers from every major, level, and language background. Consultants support writers throughout the writing process and help them develop their work. The role offers opportunities to build communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Applicants do not need to be English majors or perfect writers; they should be curious, caring, and committed to helping others grow.

The position pays $10.50 per hour. Schedules are arranged around class schedules and availability, with a minimum of 7 hours and maximum of 20 hours of work per week, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Employment is desired for the spring and ongoing. The job begins in Spring 2027.

Responsibilities

• Work one-on-one with students at every stage of the writing process, including brainstorming, researching, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing.
• Offer support with argument, thesis, audience, purpose, evidence, organization, grammar, and style.
• Support writers across disciplines and genres, including research papers, essays, lab reports, proposals, resumes, and personal statements.
• Write session notes after each tutoring session and implement feedback to support ongoing growth.
• Collaborate with directors on tasks, special projects, outreach, and presentations as needed.
• Participate actively in staff meetings, training sessions, and observations.
• Work in the CWE for at least 7 and no more than 20 hours per week, based on CWE needs.
