About The Position

The Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences (DFCAS) First Year Experience (FYE) Unit seeks Undergraduate Teaching Scholars (UTS) for the college’s CAS 1583 - Gateway to the Health Disciplines course. Undergraduate Teaching Scholars will be assigned to each section of the course per semester/term, according to class offerings and availability. Selected applicants will work closely with the primary course instructor to contribute to the students’ intellectual and personal growth. CAS 1583 fulfills the First Year Experience General Education – Core V requirement and is designed to give in-coming freshmen an orientation to Health Disciplines. Each section will have an enrollment cap of 35 students and will focus on engagement activities, in class exercises, student participation, and peer support. Undergraduate Teaching Scholars will work, on average, approximately 7- 10 hours per week. They are required to spend 3 - 6 hours per week attending all meetings of their assigned sections. Outside of class-time, they will spend approximately 4 - 7 hours per week assisting the professor with the course, primarily by: Meeting with students individually or in groups, to help them understand course materials, ideas covered in the course, and course assignments. Contributing to weekly engagement activities, in class exercises, and student participation in person and online at the Canvas Course page. Monitoring, answering, and directing incoming student email as directed by the primary course instructor. Completing other course-related tasks as assigned by the primary course instructor. Scholars will receive required training sessions to successfully carry out these duties. In addition, Scholars will receive training to serve as peer mentors for students in their section. Peer mentoring is a peer-to-peer professional relationship centered around support and guidance. Peer mentorship programs provide timely access to resources, cultivate a sense of community, and create meaningful student leadership development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 Term as an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma.
