About The Position

The College of Sciences & Mathematics is seeking an Undergraduate Research Laboratory Monitor. This student employee position involves proctoring undergraduate science students conducting research during evenings and weekends. Daily duties and supervision will be provided by the Department of Biology, with input from faculty responsible for undergraduate research. General oversight will be provided by the Department of Biology. The role requires monitoring the safety of students, conducting hourly walk-throughs of research spaces, submitting nightly reports, and communicating with relevant departments and faculty in case of emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete and perform essential job functions and responsibilities as specified.
  • Adherence to laboratory safety and health policies is required, including the use of all necessary personal protective equipment and other safety devices.
  • Either currently enrolled as a graduate student at Belmont with a B.A. or B.S. with experience in Biology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science or be enrolled in as an undergraduate in a science program in the College of Science and Mathematics.

Responsibilities

  • Proctor undergraduate science students conducting research after hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Monitor safety of undergraduate science students conducting research.
  • Perform hourly walk-throughs of research spaces.
  • Submit nightly reports detailing lab usage and safety adherence.
  • Communicate with Security, research faculty, and Biology Department Chair/Research Coordinator in the event of an emergency.
  • Complete work assignments safely using necessary personal protective equipment and other safety devices.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
