About The Position

The ACLU seeks an Undergraduate Social Media & Store Intern in the Communications and Marketing department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This internship can be remote or hybrid. Qualifying applicants must currently be matriculated undergraduate students or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience and must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship. The ACLU Communications department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s transformational work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written content, creative branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to build a more perfect union.

Requirements

  • Currently matriculated undergraduate students or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Previous ecommerce experience for a major brand or retailer.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable analyzing data.
  • Experience using social media for professional, academic, or extracurricular purposes.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly web-based research including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel).
  • Attention to detail, excellent written communication skills.
  • Committed to advancing the mission of the ACLU.

Responsibilities

  • Aiding in running the store in the most efficient, cost effective, and profitable way possible.
  • Assisting the ACLU’s social media team in researching, producing, scheduling, and measuring the performance of content posted across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Bluesky, Threads, and emerging platforms as needed.
  • Regular online store updates including: product photography, product page set up, copywriting, digital marketing support, and more.
  • Applying research on latest industry trends to help brainstorm new products, merchandise strategies, and promotional campaigns.
  • Collecting and analyzing budget, inventory, and sales data using Excel.
  • Social media copywriting.
  • Supporting social media metrics reporting and data analysis.
  • Producing social media content, including scripting, on-screen appearances, and TikTok production.
