About The Position

The Marketing and Communications department at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), oversees the Museum’s social media presence, including strategy, content creation, and community management across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and YouTube. The team is seeking a creative, detail-oriented intern with excellent writing skills, a strong understanding of social media platforms, and an eye for creating short-form video content. Reporting to the Manager of Digital Marketing Strategy, the intern will support day-to-day social media operations and gain hands-on experience creating content for a global audience. The intern will also gain exposure to how paid social advertising complements the Museum’s organic social presence and broader digital marketing efforts. The MFA actively encourages students from all backgrounds to apply to the program.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program concurrent with the internship period.
  • Excellent writing, copy editing, and communication skills.
  • Deep familiarity with social media platforms—especially Instagram and TikTok—and the ability to create engaging, platform-specific content.
  • Keen awareness of internet culture and the confidence to pitch ideas and identify timely content opportunities.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrated interest in art, museums, and cultural institutions.
  • Ability to work onsite 15 hours per week (preferably Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays) from September 11 through December 11, 2026. These hours include attendance at the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course from 12:30–2:30 pm on the following Fridays: Sept 18, Sept 25, Oct 2, Oct 9, Oct 16, Oct 23, Oct 30, Nov 6, Nov 13, Nov 20, and Dec 4.
  • Ability to attend orientation on Friday, September 11, 2026, 10 am–3:30 pm.

  • Experience with short-form video content creation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm and create original content for the MFA’s social media channels.
  • Film and edit short-form video content on iPhone using tools such as Instagram Edits and CapCut.
  • Monitor social media trends and recommend creative ideas that align with the Museum’s voice and mission.
  • Research YouTube trends and the competitive landscape to identify opportunities for the Museum's YouTube strategy.
  • Assist with tracking user-generated content.
  • Assist with influencer strategy and outreach.
  • Shadow the planning and execution of paid social media campaigns, gaining exposure to strategy, audience targeting, and reporting.
  • Assist with onsite Marketing and Communications events as needed, such as press and influencer previews and photo/video shoots.
