This full-time undergraduate internship is scheduled for Summer-Fall 2027, from May or June through December, and is based onsite in Rochester, Minnesota. Interns are expected not to pursue significant coursework during summer or fall 2027, although some have maintained an online evening college course. The Mayo Clinic Engineering team seeks an intern to support full-time project managers and provide students with relevant engineering experience. The intern will learn the team’s procedures and processes, receive assignments that support both the learning experience and the work unit, and present work accomplishments at the end of the term. Mentors provide instruction, guidance, and performance assessment. Assignments may include developing project strategies; creating and managing schedules; gathering user needs, requirements, and specifications; evaluating commercial components; conducting design verification and validation; and participating in design reviews. Work takes place in a multidisciplinary development engineering environment and within Engineering’s Quality Management System, including safety risk management. The intern must complete internship-related assignments and reports for Mayo Clinic and, if applicable, the participating educational facility. The role offers experience in medical-device development processes and documentation, stakeholder interviews, and meetings to gather content for product-support documentation, verification, and validation. It also provides project hours that may help build experience toward Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
