About The Position

The Undergraduate Advisor supports the Department of English by advising potential and registered undergraduate students of the academic requirements for the Department of English degree programs and screening applications for undergraduate study. The incumbent administers the undergraduate registration process, program of study, and graduation activities. The incumbent interviews students on academic probation, coordinates the articulation of post-secondary transfer credit, and advises on scholarship eligibility. The Undergraduate Advisor coordinates and participates in student engagement and recruitment activities.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree and three years of related experience in post-secondary program advising and registration services OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of the curriculum requirements of undergraduate program-related regulations and procedures and the ability to interpret and apply policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment, initiative, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Ability to work independently and to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, SIMS, or equivalent).
  • Proficient in the use of standard office applications and web content management (e.g., Word, FileMaker, Excel, CQ5).

Responsibilities

  • Advise potential and registered undergraduate students on academic requirements for degree programs.
  • Screen applications for undergraduate study.
  • Administer the undergraduate registration process, program of study, and graduation activities.
  • Interview students on academic probation.
  • Coordinate the articulation of post-secondary transfer credit.
  • Advise on scholarship eligibility.
  • Coordinate and participate in student engagement and recruitment activities.
