About The Position

Argyros College Undergraduate Academic Peer Advisors serve as a crucial academic resource for first-year and sophomore students. They assist students in selecting classes that align with their program requirements and interests, provide information on Argyros academic programs, Chapman academic policies and procedures, and guide students to appropriate campus resources. Additionally, they share their personal experiences as Chapman University students to foster student success and a sense of belonging.

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior Business Administration or Accounting major within the Argyros College of Business and Economics
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Availability to work Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9am and 4pm
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Well organized with assigned projects
  • Ability to think critically and work independently
  • Ability to motivate and inspire peers along their academic journey
  • Openness to share own academic experiences for the encouragement of peers
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality and represent Chapman University in a professional manner

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a professional, helpful, and welcoming atmosphere, maintaining a positive attitude for students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Communicate with Argyros First-Years and Sophomores regarding appointment availability via email.
  • Assist Argyros Academic Advisors with the creation of advising materials.
  • Schedule and manage in-person appointments, being available during assigned advising hours.
  • Respond to all email inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform basic intake analysis to determine if the student's inquiry can be addressed or if a referral to another person, department, or college on campus is necessary.
  • Track and maintain notes for every student meeting.
  • Help first-years and sophomores plan their major courses to ensure they stay on track for graduation.
  • Answer questions about general education courses, course enrollment or waitlisting, major-related inquiries, incorporating study abroad into graduation plans, and graduating on schedule.
  • Be available to assist Argyros Academic Advisors at Advising Fest during registration periods in November and April.
  • Strive for constant accuracy and honesty in all communication.
  • Attend all training sessions and peer advising meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
