About The Position

The Academic Advisor will carry an undergraduate caseload within the College of Engineering and Computing, serve as an instructor for assigned sections of the fall-term EXP 1001 course, and participate in advising initiatives and projects as assigned. This is a highly visible position requiring an individual who can effectively interact with a wide range of internal and external constituents. Academic advisors, like faculty and other professional staff, are central to providing information, guidance, and support that enable students to make informed decisions, engage available resources, and achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. The individual is expected to exercise sound judgment when working with students, faculty, staff, parents, administrators, and representatives of external organizations. The advisor must be resourceful, organized, and disciplined, with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders throughout the University community. The Academic Advisor provides comprehensive academic advising to current and prospective CCI students regarding academic policies, procedures, curriculum requirements, and progress toward degree completion. The position performs advanced student service functions that require broad knowledge of established academic policies and procedures and supports students throughout their academic careers through a holistic approach to the student experience. Working in partnership with stakeholders across the University, the Academic Advisor serves as a student advocate and an integral contributor to student learning, development, retention, and success. The advisor proactively identifies student needs, provides appropriate guidance and referrals, supports students in navigating academic and institutional processes, and contributes to initiatives that promote academic progress and timely degree completion.

Requirements

Minimum of a Associate's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Minimum of 0–2 years of experience in academic advising, student services, higher education, or a related educational environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Well-developed organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to proactively identify concerns, assess situations, and develop appropriate solutions.
Demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality, student-centered service.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, complete projects, and meet established deadlines.
Ability to exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive and confidential information.
Proficiency with personal computers and standard software applications, including Microsoft Office or comparable productivity tools.
Experience working with students experiencing academic, personal, or other challenges and connecting them with appropriate resources.

Responsibilities

Advise a caseload of CCI current and prospective students regarding curriculum, academic progress, degree requirements, and related matters.
Provide developmental advising focused on critical and ethical reasoning, goal setting, identifying and addressing obstacles, and making appropriate referrals.
Advise students regarding college and University regulations, policies, and procedures.
Support students with diverse academic, personal, and developmental needs.
Connect students with appropriate academic and University resources to promote academic success and personal and professional growth.
Manage transactional advising for undergraduate students, including add/drop, minors, change of major, closed-section overrides, academic standing, and related academic processes.
Assist students with registration and resolve registration-related issues.
Monitor student academic progress and provide appropriate advising interventions.
Communicate with students, faculty, and administration regarding academic and registration matters.
Maintain effective lines of communication to ensure timely resolution of student concerns.
Assist with student events and initiatives, including Welcome Week, College Day, Peer Mentoring, Commencement, and Celebration of Engineering.
Participate in student support programming designed to promote engagement, persistence, and academic success.
Support advising-related student initiatives and programs.
Participate in College recruitment and retention activities.
Provide academic advising and program information to prospective and current students at appropriate events.
Support recruitment and retention project teams as assigned.
Occasionally staff evening and weekend events in support of College initiatives.
Pre-clear candidates for graduation and ensure all degree requirements are satisfied.
Support student registration processes and resolve registration issues.
Maintain accurate and timely student records and documentation.
Maintain inactive and archived student files in accordance with university procedures.
Maintain proficiency with technology and systems related to academic advising.
Use advising and student information systems to support student tracking, documentation, and communication.
Appropriately manage sensitive and confidential student information in accordance with FERPA and University policies.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators, and University partners to support student success.
Teach EXP 1001.
Perform other duties as assigned.
