About The Position

Under general supervision of the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) Student Services Center and Educational Opportunity Programs (SSC/EOP) Satellite Director, the Undergraduate Academic Advisor provides individual and group advisement, support EOP initiatives, participate in outreach events, analyze advising data, and contribute to workshops and services that promote student persistence and degree completion across diverse populations within the college environment while alignment with institutional policies. Conducts individual and group academic advisement (including planning, presenting, advising, and proactive follow-up) and summarizes advisement reports or other reports as requested by the CECS SSC/EOP Director or Associate Dean. Assists with EOP Freshman/Transfer Advisement, transitional programs, and admissions. Attends staff meetings and participates in professional development/training sessions as needed/requested. Assists the Director in developing promotion materials, implementing/coordinating special events such as Admitted Matadors Day, Major’s Fair, and community college and high school recruitment fairs, etc., analyzes advising-related data, and plans/conducts advising workshops. Assists the Director in planning, coordinating and implementing advisement, retention, and tutoring services provided by the College of Engineering and Computer Science Student Services Center/EOP (CECS SSC/EOP). Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
  • Ability to analyze advising-related data and apply insights to support retention, academic progress, and student success initiatives within a higher education setting.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, including flexible scheduling, supporting tutoring and advising services, and providing direction to student assistants within an academic support setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a job-related field.
  • Experience working with students in multi-cultural/multi-ethnic populations.
  • Experience working with students that are historically under-represented, under prepared, low-income, and first-generation college students.
  • Experience developing advisement procedures.
  • Experience with Educational Opportunity and/or Trio Program.
  • Working knowledge of SOLAR and/or EAB program.
