About The Position

The Undergraduate Academic Advisor provides academic advising to first generation students, international students, and students with financial need within the College of Pharmacy; assists with the recruitment of special populations; manages aspects of financial aid; develops and coordinates mentoring programs, workshops, and networking opportunities; connects students with campus resources; and supports the Office of Student Success with special events. Undergraduate Academic Advising: 50% Provides and documents one-on-one advising to a caseload of undergraduate students, including first-generation students, international students, and students with financial need, regarding academic concerns and the alignment of academic programs with their educational and career goals Counsels on general education, prerequisite requirements, and major course requirements Advises students with academic, probationary, and financial concerns Supports coordination of and collaborates with the advising team on leading sessions as part of the summer orientation program Provides guidance related to federal and university policy for international students Develops content for and instructs PHR 1100 and/or PHR 1100H classes Success Coaching and Mentoring: 20% Establishes ongoing, supportive relationships with students that include international, first generation, and students with financial need enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and/or PharmD programs through regular one-on-one meetings with the purpose of goal setting Helps students identify strengths, challenges, goals, and barriers to success Assists students with developing strategies related to time management, organization, study and learning strategies, test preparation, academic resilience, goal setting, and motivation through the development of workshops, special events, and informative communication Develops mentor programs for students that include international, first generation, and students with financial need enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and/or PharmD programs. Coordinates or contributes to the planning of programs, workshops, panels, and networking opportunities designed for students that include international, first generation, and students with financial need enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and/or PharmD programs Recruitment: 5% Assists with recruitment efforts geared toward special populations student applicants Attends special university and college recruitment events Provides support to applicants through the application process Participates in the admissions process for combined degree students and the EAP option Financial Aid: 20% Provides financial aid counseling to current and prospective PharmD students including assistance with FASFA and other financial aid requirements at individual appointments, by email, or through presentations Presents information to students at special events Manages scholarship funds including HPSL, the College of Pharmacy hardship fund, student conference funds, and end of the year monetary awards Updates scholarship materials, scholarship software, and other documents associated with the review of scholarship processing Participants in training to remain current on federal and university policy Other Duties: 5% Other duties as assigned, supports the Office of Student Success with special events, and supports student workers in the Office of Student Success

Requirements

  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs/personnel, or related field.
  • Understanding of the unique needs and experiences of first-generation students.
  • Ability to develop and present workshops and information sessions on varying topics.

Benefits

  • The pay range for this job profile is $50,000 - $58,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
