The Uncleared and Abandoned Cargo (UAC) Clerk handles low-complexity import and export container cases that have not been collected from the port, terminal, or rail after discharge. The primary goal is to recover charges or minimize MSC's costs while maintaining excellent customer service. This role involves communicating with customers and internal departments, following established procedures for UAC cases, and ensuring timely resolution of customer requirements regarding discounts, waivers, changes of consignee, re-exportation, and de-stuffing in warehouses. The clerk is also responsible for applying charges and fees with HQ approval, informing customers about cargo sale or destruction, and preventing UAC cases by prescreening high-risk bookings. This includes checking "high risk" bookings via the One Vision Compliance platform, assessing customer importance with Traffic and Trade departments, and verifying customer awareness and documentation for cargo pickup. If a high risk is identified, the clerk may request a security deposit, Letter of Indemnity, or reroute the shipment. In cases of abandonment, the clerk proceeds with salvage, destruction, or public auction as decided by authorities, and involves the Legal department for cost recovery if customers are uncooperative. The role also offers financial settlement options for customers with outstanding debts.
