About The Position

Performs ultrasound examinations for interpretation to aid in patient diagnosis. Applies independent judgment when using non-ionizing, high-frequency ultrasonic waves to diagnose disease. Collaborates with clinicians to ensure studies are appropriate and performs related administrative tasks.

Requirements

Vocational or technical school diploma.
At least one of the following credentials: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS); Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS); Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS); Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT); Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS); Registered Technologist in Sonography (R.T.(S)(ARRT)); or Registered Technologist in Vascular Sonography (R.T.(VS)(ARRT)).
1–3 years of technical experience.

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations, position them according to departmental procedures, and explain procedures in layman’s terms to ease anxiety.
Obtain relevant imaging and diagnostic reports needed to correlate with the ultrasound examination.
Consult referring physicians about patient history and the appropriate ultrasound examination.
Set up equipment for examinations promptly and use machine settings and technical judgment to ensure accurate results.
Perform ultrasound procedures, recognize the significance of structures visualized on the oscilloscope, and distinguish artifacts from normal or pathological processes.
Determine whether more extensive evaluations are needed beyond preliminary instructions.
Observe patients throughout examinations and report changes in their condition or complaints of motor abnormalities, including fainting or discoloration, according to procedures.
Document image details, label studies, and maintain records and logs of examinations performed.
Perform frequent calibration checks and adjustments on ultrasound equipment and troubleshoot mechanical problems as necessary.
Perform related duties as required.
