About The Position

The Ultrasound Tech - Sonographer plays a critical role in the healthcare team by performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. This position requires the ability to operate sophisticated ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality images of patients’ internal organs, tissues, and blood flow. The sonographer must ensure patient comfort and safety while accurately following protocols and procedures to obtain precise diagnostic information. Collaboration with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals is essential to interpret preliminary findings and contribute to patient care plans. Ultimately, the role supports improved patient outcomes through expert imaging and effective communication within the healthcare environment. Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
  • Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or equivalent credential.
  • Valid state licensure or certification as required by the state of employment.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate ultrasound equipment and perform diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • The required skills enable the sonographer to accurately capture diagnostic images by expertly operating ultrasound equipment and applying knowledge of anatomy and pathology.
  • Effective communication skills are essential for explaining procedures to patients and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking are used daily to assess image quality and identify abnormalities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in specialized ultrasound areas such as abdominal sonography.
  • Additional certifications in specialty areas (e.g., RVT, RDCS).
  • Experience working in a hospital or clinical setting with diverse patient populations.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and imaging software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in patient education and support.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems enhances efficiency in documenting and sharing patient information securely.
  • Specialized knowledge in certain ultrasound modalities allows the sonographer to provide more targeted diagnostic support, improving patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations on patients according to established protocols and physician orders.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, answering questions, and ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is functioning properly and reporting any malfunctions.
  • Analyze images for quality and accuracy, documenting findings and assisting physicians with preliminary interpretations.
  • Maintain detailed patient records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to discuss findings and contribute to patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Stay current with advances in ultrasound technology and best practices through continuing education and training.
