About The Position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking an Ultrasonic Phased Array Technician to join their Industry Services team. This role focuses on advanced NDE projects, primarily phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) of critical components like high energy piping, pressure vessels, and structural weldments. The technician will collaborate directly with engineers and metallurgists, feeding inspection results into advanced analysis, failure investigations, and asset life management. The position requires significant travel (50%+) across the United States and internationally, with projects typically being short in duration, allowing for weekends at home between assignments.

Requirements

  • Able to work in the field unsupervised and meet scheduled examination and reporting requirements.
  • Strong client-facing skills and ability to communicate technical findings effectively in the field
  • Currently qualified, or able to become qualified within a reasonable timeframe, in UT Phased Array (PAUT) using EPRI or other industry-recognized methodologies
  • Level II certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), including shear wave and phased array, in accordance with ASNT or equivalent
  • Level II certifications in MT, PT, and VT
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant field experience performing NDE
  • Demonstrated experience with phased array equipment and weld inspection
  • Ability to read and interpret inspection procedures, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and fabrication drawings
  • Familiarity with applicable codes including ASME B31.1, B31.3, and AWS D1.1 as they pertain to NDE
  • Ability to work in field environments including heights, confined spaces, and outage conditions
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (50%+)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Level III certification in UT
  • Experience performing NDE in power generation environments, particularly high energy piping systems
  • Familiarity with degradation mechanisms such as flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC), creep, and thermal fatigue
  • Experience with encoded or automated PAUT systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced NDE in accordance with established procedures and applicable codes (ASME Section V, B31.1, etc.), independently or as part of a team
  • Conduct PAUT inspections on high energy piping, pressure vessels, boiler components, and structural weldments
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate phased array ultrasonic equipment (e.g., OmniScan MX3 or equivalent)
  • Acquire and interpret PAUT data, including identification and characterization of indications and flaw sizing
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and defensible inspection reports for client and engineering evaluation
  • Work closely with engineers and metallurgists to support integrity assessments and failure investigations
  • Assist in development and continuous improvement of NDE procedures, techniques, and reporting methods
  • Maintain NDE equipment in a clean, organized, and calibrated condition
  • Adhere to a strong safety culture and comply with all site-specific safety requirements
  • Travel to job sites, outages, and Intertek offices as required
  • Perform additional NDE techniques as required for business or technical purposes
