About The Position

The Kolind Laboratory, within the Division of Neurology at UBC, is seeking an Ultra-low field Program Manager to oversee a portfolio of ULF MRI research initiatives. Reporting to Dr. Shannon Kolind, this role involves providing direction, technical consultation, and strategic planning for ULF MRI techniques, applications, and studies. The Program Manager will lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team, act as a liaison for various stakeholders including industry partners and funding agencies, and develop new collaborations to expand the research program. This position requires a high level of independence and adherence to ethical research practices and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Strong familiarity with advanced MRI image reconstruction and processing tools is required.
  • Strong evidence of the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders (neurologists, radiologists, external collaborators, company executives) is required.
  • Project management, analytical, and organizational skills; excellent teaching, training, facilitation, and presentation skills and experience.
  • Possession of a strong work ethic with excellent interpersonal and time management skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and strong customer service skills are required.
  • Expected to perform to an exceptionally high level of professional work standards.
  • Extensive experience in needs assessment and requirements analysis, technical and process improvement solutions analysis and design, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A highly motivated and self-starting individual who can proactively solve problems creatively in a challenging environment with limited supervision and direction.
  • Ability to effectively manage changing and competing priorities is essential.
  • Must thrive in a team setting in a diverse, complex, distributed, and fluid environment.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ULF MRI research experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a supervisory role is an asset.
  • Knowledge of image processing methods, particularly in medical imaging, is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies strategic directions for research and sets research priorities with the PI and collaborators.
  • Initiates and develops partnerships with external collaborators, including industry partners.
  • Provides technical knowledge and operational oversight to ensure technical and clinical validity.
  • Sets project priorities and leads funding initiatives (e.g., grant proposals; donor and sponsorship events) to expand the scope of the research program.
  • Develops and implements operational protocols for ULF MRI scanner operators, participates in operations and safety committees, and ensures program-wide adherence to current safety regulations.
  • Oversees timelines and deliverables to ensure project milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Provides supervision, mentorship, and training to research staff and students in activities related to the operation of ULF MRI scanners, development of new techniques, and handling subsequent data.
  • Establishes standard operating procedures and ensures the program adheres to these protocols.
  • Liaises with collaborators (e.g., MRI manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, external collaborators) for project proposal initiation, maintenance, monitoring, and closure.
  • Customizes ULF MRI sequences and protocols for studies in coordination with the PI and collaborators.
  • Oversees data analysis pipelines and shares them with collaborators.
  • Trains site coordinators on MRI data anonymization, data storage, and data transfer.
  • Reports MRI-related logistical challenges (e.g., protocol violations) and provides solutions to the PI and at MRI workshops and study-specific meetings.
  • Prepares progress (annual, quarterly) and/or final reports for sponsors or funding agencies.
  • Participates in the writing and reviewing of abstracts, posters, and manuscripts for local, national, and international presentations/publications.
  • Represents the program at relevant program-related meetings and conferences.
  • Travels as required to attend meetings and conferences (local, national, international).
  • Performs other duties as required to meet contract deliverables and timelines.
