Requirements
- One year of experience inspecting commercial, industrial, or other public use buildings for compliance with building and safety codes; or Two years of building construction work which included the performance of skilled trades duties in the electrical, structural, plumbing, or mechanical trades; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Must live in or be willing to relocate to Berks county by date of hire.
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.

- Valid certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as an Accessibility Inspector/Plan Examiner within the probationary period.
- Valid certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, within the probationary period: Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, or Energy Inspector.
Responsibilities
- Train to examine buildings and structures for compliance with safety and construction requirements
- Review municipal code programs to assess accessibility compliance under the UCC
- Report unsafe conditions and ensure follow-up inspections of corrected issues
- Assist with enforcing corrective orders including recommending stop work notices
- Support agency representation at hearings and help obtain search warrants when required
- Maintain daily activity records and prepare detailed inspection reports
