Typists perform routine clerical work involving the operation of equipment requiring the manipulation of a standard alphanumeric keyboard. The types of equipment used include Electronic Word Processing Equipment, Personal Computers, Data Terminals, and Printers. This position also involves a broad responsibility for performing non-typing clerical tasks. While work is routine, incumbents may be assigned more complex duties as they gain experience, but these will not reach the difficulty of senior-level positions. Incumbents must exercise independent judgment in applying fixed procedures to specific cases, and their work is reviewed through observation, checks, or cross-checking. This class is equivalent to Clerk, with the added requirement of typing at a reasonable speed. No supervision is exercised.
