Typists perform routine clerical work involving the operation of equipment requiring the manipulation of a standard alphanumeric keyboard. This includes producing correspondence, reports, and charts using equipment such as Electronic Word Processing Equipment, Personal Computers, and Printers. The position also involves a broad responsibility for performing non-typing clerical tasks. While work is routine, incumbents may be assigned more complex duties as they gain experience, but these will not reach the difficulty of senior-level positions. Incumbents must exercise independent judgment in applying fixed procedures to specific cases, with work reviewed through observation, spot checks, or cross-checking. This role is equivalent to a Clerk but requires the ability to type at a reasonable speed. No supervision is exercised over other employees.
