About The Position

WHYY is a public media provider serving the Philadelphia region with journalism, storytelling, and local arts programming. TV Production interns support producers working on segments for a monthly broadcast and the website, participate in field and studio shoots, and may pitch stories for shows in production. They also write copy. The internship provides exposure to television production from pre-production through post-production, including research, interviewing, program organization, offline editing, and professional etiquette on shoots.

Requirements

• Be a current junior or senior undergraduate student, a graduate student, or a recent graduate who graduated no more than three years ago.
• Submit a resume.
• Submit a cover letter discussing career goals, computer and language skills, and any relevant broadcasting or media experience.
• Submit a two- or three-page writing sample.
• Submit a letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to relevant experience, background, skills, and/or work ethic.

Nice To Haves

• Experience using AVID.
• Experience with After Effects.
• Experience editing or producing.
• A link to media or digital work, if appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Join producers on field shoots and act as a production assistant on location.
• Generate, organize, and gather release forms and other production materials.
• Assist with logging and transcribing footage.
• Support producers as they research, shoot, and edit segments for the monthly broadcast and website.
• Support studio shoots by running the teleprompter, welcoming guests, and acting as a production assistant.
• Pitch stories for shows currently in production.
• Write copy.
